Q&A
Can the travel policy be arranged after departure for the trip?
No. A travel policy must be arranged before departure. In most circumstances, the Insurer will not accept your application for insurance if the trip has begun.
Is it possible to extend the period of insurance after departure?
Yes, but the Insurer must be notified before the expiry of the travel policy and the extension is subject to an additional premium. Nevertheless, the trip after the extension must not exceed the day limit as stated in item 6 of Important Notes.
Can I cancel the policy and have the premium refunded before commencement of the trip?
No. Once the application for the travel insurance plan is accepted, part of the coverage takes immediate effect. Therefore, the policy cannot be cancelled or extended. If the reason of cancellation falls within the coverage of Cancellation of Trip, the insured will be indemnified for the unrecoverable travel fare or other expenses.
Can grandparents be included in the Family Plan?
No. The Family Plan includes parents and their children aged 6 months to 16 years old (on the day of departure). Grandparents and children who reach 17 years old will have to purchase their own travel policies.
Can a domestic helper be included in the Family Plan?
No. The employer is advised to arrange a separate policy for the domestic helper.
Is it necessary to include the departure and return dates in the period of insurance upon application?
Yes. The period of insurance should cover the whole journey, i.e., both departure and return dates are inclusive.
If the tour operator becomes bankrupt, can the Insured Person claim for indemnity under the policy?
No. A travel policy does not indemnify the Insured Person for any loss due to bankruptcy, liquidation, error, omission or default of any travel agency and tour operator. The insured will have to lodge his/her claim directly with the relevant party.
Must the first consultation be made abroad to be entitled to claim follow-up medical expenses in Hong Kong?
Yes, the Insured Person must receive the first medical consultation on the same illness or accident during the insured journey abroad before being entitled to claim the follow-up medical treatments in Hong Kong.
Will any group discounts be offered?
A special discount will be offered to groups of 7 persons or more. There will be an extra discount for groups of 12 persons or more. Please contact us for details.
